The unique development of Dubai has thoroughly encountered critical challenges such as limited natural resources and high energy consumption per capita relevant to the existing arid climate. The students at the American University in Dubai (AUD) acknowledge the Solar Decathlon Middle East (SDME) competition as an excellent opportunity to share their knowledge, skills, and solutions to contribute for tackling these challenges. All capacities will be employed to convince the Middle Eastern societyon how accessible, affordable, resource-efficient, convenient, and eco-friendly a building can be in the region.

The Electricity Generation from solar energy is the key to a sustainable and resourceful future for the generations to come. The name of our project, “Jeel” meaning (Generation) in Arabic, has been selected to reflect this message. However, taking a critical step toward the development of sustainable cities in the future, Jeel employs affordable, resource-efficient, and both user and eco-friendly technologies in constructing a solar-powered net-zero residential unit.
The architectural design of this sustainable house will address relevant conventional, modern, and innovative architectural elements, in addition, to creatively embedded cultural and historical values of the UAE.
The great living experience provided by Jeel, together with the ever-increasing interest in innovative and eco-friendly technologies are anticipated to raise the visibility and popularity of such net-zero building units. The tackling of climate-related distinctive challenges will improve the credibility of practical, sustainable solar houses as a key requirement for their mass-production locally or around the globe in the near future.
