The team aims to improve the building sector by creating a prototype of a sustainable house, whichadapts not only to the UAE climate, but also to other climate conditions, promoting a moreresponsible way of building and use of resources. They also seek to obtain a brand new livingexperience with this prototype, which can adapt easily to different lifestyles and culturalneeds, due to its flexible design.Through this prototype, the EFden team want to increase the population’s awareness of energy efficientsolar houses in order to facilitate a rise in demand for solar technologies that will make themmore accessible to everyone. Moreover, they believe in promoting tightly knit communities that willhelp support the idea of change in each individual.

A multipurpose envelope designed to serve asa first barrier against harsh climate and ensure a smoother and healthier transition between indoor and outdoor conditions. The flexible interior design, with convertible spaces, allows the user to customize the house.

The customization level is increased by the automation system, which adapts to the users’ preferences for optimal comfort and safety. The integrated systems will be activated using voice recognition and Augmented Reality Interface.

The interior space is actively conditioned with an absorption chiller, using solar heat to produce cool water. Moreover, thermal comfort in the exterior shaded spaces is achieved with natural ventilation and evaporative cooling. Active and passive systems, combined, increase efficiency.

The house is designed to be atthe top floor of a residential unit, where green roofs will become a large community generator. The way nature works, building ecosystems that allow plants to sustain each other, inspired us to propose an ensemble where joining multiple dwellings is favorable for energy savings. This way, the whole becomes more than the sum of its parts.
